Keegan Lee

Keegan Lee is a remarkable young author, speaker, student leader, and digital wellness advocate. A sophomore honors student at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Keegan’s multifaceted background and exceptional accomplishments have positioned her as a rising star in public speaking, tech ethics, and mental health advocacy.
During the pandemic, Keegan realized that she was addicted to social media. She decided to stay offline for 60 days, turning to the slower-paced world of reading books, handwriting letters, and connecting with people in real life. She documented her journey in a diary she shared with an Elon University psychologist, Bilal Ghandour, Ph.D., with whom she co-authored a book about the experience, 60 Days of Disconnect: A Personal Perspective of How Social Media Affects Mental Health.
Keegan’s passion for championing mental health led her to create a global mental health campaign and a digital wellness program for parents and educators. A member of the youth boards at Mental Health America and The American Academy of Pediatrics, she uses her influential voice to advocate for innovative solutions and promote the importance of psychological well-being, focusing on young people.
As a public speaker, Keegan is highly sought after for her dynamic and engaging presentations. She has been invited to speak at various conferences, schools, and organizations, where she captivates audiences with her deep understanding of the ethical implications of emerging technologies.
Her expertise in tech ethics has earned her recognition from industry leaders, receiving grants & mentorship from Netflix’s The Social Dilemma and TikTok's "Safety by Design" team. She is also Named a James R. Copland & Lillian G. Copland Scholar at UNC‑Chapel Hill. Her advocacy work was recognized by People magazine as one of seven “Girls Changing the World” in 2024.
